RRB NTPC SYLLABUS AND EXAM PATTERN

Exam Structure & Pattern



  • CBT 1 (Stage 1)

    • 100 questions, 100 marks, duration: 90 minutes
    • Subjects: General Awareness (40 Qs), Mathematics (30 Qs), General Intelligence & Reasoning (30 Qs)
    • Negative marking: –1/3 mark for each incorrect answer
  • CBT 2 (Stage 2)

    • 120 questions, 120 marks, duration: 90 minutes
    • Subjects: General Awareness (50 Qs), Mathematics (35 Qs), General Intelligence & Reasoning (35 Qs)
    • Same negative marking applied
  • Selection stages also include Typing Skill Test / Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination .

1. Mathematics (Arithmetic Ability)

Topics cover:

  • Number System, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF
  • Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Mensuration
  • Time & Work, Time, Speed & Distance
  • Simple & Compound Interest, Profit & Loss
  • Elementary Algebra, Geometry & Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Averages, Data Interpretation

2. General Intelligence & Reasoning

Topics include:

  • Analogies, Number & Alphabet Series, Coding & Decoding
  • Series Completion, Mathematical Operations, Similarities & Differences
  • Relationships, Syllogism, Analytical Reasoning, Jumbling, Venn Diagrams
  • Puzzles, Data Sufficiency, Statement–Conclusion, Statement– Courses of Action
  • Decision Making, Maps & Graph Interpretation, Alphanumeric Series

3. General Awareness (GK)

Includes both current affairs and static topics such as:

  • National & international current events, Games & Sports, Art & Culture, Indian Literature, Monuments & Places
  • Basics of Science & Life Science (up to class 10), History of India (incl. Freedom Struggle)
  • Geography (Physical, Social, Economic of India and World)
  • Indian Polity, Constitution and Governance, Scientific & Technological developments (Space & Nuclear)
  • UN and other international organizations, Environmental Issues, Computers & Applications, Common abbreviations
  • Transport systems, Indian Economy, Flagship Government programs, Flora & Fauna, Famous personalities, Important government & public sector organizations
